Criminal Minds

December 20th, 2009 by Bern

criminal-mindsSo my roommate and I have a full slate on our livingroom DVR. We are total Bravoholics, from Real Housewives to Flipping Out to Make Me A Supermodel – we watch them all. We also seem to have a very strange penchant for crime shows like CSI (NY, Miami and Las Vegas), Numb3rs (not really so much), and Criminal Minds. I think our favorite of the crime shows is Criminal Minds. We start watching on Friday night on A&E and don’t finish watching until sometime Sunday night. Totally hooked. Like we were totally devastated when Garcia got shot. Like she’s part of our family, too.

The other night we were watching an episode and found ourselves wondering if some of the crimes depicted actually happen. Then we thought, “Oh hell, even if they don’t actually happen, who the hell in their right minds thinks this crap up??” We sit for the hour yelling at the characters to not go in that room because the bad guy is in there or don’t turn around because the bad guy is right behind you. I should find a tape recorder for when we watch tv. We’re even worse when watching The Vampire Diaries. Read the rest of this entry »

Hulu – My Kinda TV

November 15th, 2009 by Bern

Hulu Home Page

I have to laugh at myself sometimes. I used to think my mom was silly for complaining about how many commercials were shown during a typical tv show. She used to make us watch PBS all the time because there were no commercials. During their peak “giving” seasons, she would take the time that PBS celebs would take to beg for donations to keep the programming alive to clean up the house, go to the bathroom, make something to eat – whatever. That was 30 years ago. Since I have some Alfred Hitchcock in my Hulu queue, I can honestly say that a 30-minute program in 1957 had an average of 5 minutes worth of commercials. Today, there are closer to 9 minutes worth of commercials. Imagine what she could have done with all that time! An average 60-minute long show has about 17 minutes worth of commercials. The Vampire Diaries

October 3rd, 2009 by Bern

vampire-diariesSo I never got into the whole “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” or “Angel” shows. They just seemed so silly and sophomoric. I would have thought the same the about “The Vampire Diaries,” but I have to admit, I look forward to 8pm on Thursday nights!

The story revolves around Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore (Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder). We haven’t gotten the whole story yet, but apparently, Elena is a dead-ringer (excuse the pun) for Katherine, a woman from the brothers’ past. Stefan is protective of Elena, while Damon wants to destroy her. While the Salvatore family has been outcast from Mystic Falls (the town in which they live), Stefan seems to fit in at school…as well as a 150-year-old vampire can I suppose. Damon has been feeding on residents randomly throughout the town, and the town is in fear of a large predatory animal. Hmmm an animal that only attacks its human victims on the neck.     Read the rest of this entry »

RH Atlanta Sadness

October 3rd, 2009 by Bern

kandi-and-ajTMZ has reported that the ex-fiancé of Kandi Burruss, one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, was killed in a bar fight last night. It was reported that AJ “suffered severe head injuries during the fight at Body Tap and was rushed to Piedmont Hospital, where he later died.” Frederick Richardson has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

According to a post on No4Corners.com, Kandi had already called off the wedding back in August, stating that Kandi and AJ had become engaged right before taping started for RHA. While taping, Kandi says that there were alot of issues she was confronted with that to-date haven’t been shared in front of the camera. Anyone who watches the show knows that Kandi was taking alot of heat from her mother over AJ’s rampant baby-making (6 children with 4 different mothers). Even though the wedding had been called off, Kandi says that she and AJ are still together and trying to work through their issues.     Read the rest of this entry »

Great DVD’s to Work By

September 16th, 2009 by Bern

Animal HouseIt’s funny. I’m the kind of web designer/developer that has to have some kind of background noise going when I’m in front of my computer. When I had my house I had a whole den with my computer, recliner and tv. The recliner is deadly though. Just one look and you’re snoring. But having the tv on while I was working was enough. Except of course for commercials. They just annoy the piss out of me.

But, now I’m in an apartment and the 3rd bedroom that I’m using for my “office” isn’t really big enough for all the stuff I used to have in my den. And that’s quite alright. I’ve found that I love listening to dvd’s while I’m working. I actually have 2 monitors connected to my computer. I use my 22″ while working and play dvd’s on a dinky 15″. The smaller monitor is over in the corner, where I can still see it, but it’s not a distraction. When I need a distraction, I actually just sit back in my chair and watch the dvd for a few minutes. As I said, the purpose of the dvd isn’t for watching: it’s to listen to. I’ve seen most of them so many times I can pretty much recite them line by line. The best part about them is I can rip them to my computer and then create playlists which means no commercials.     Read the rest of this entry »

Kanye West Strikes Again

September 15th, 2009 by Bern

kanye-taylorI am not at all up on today’s music. I’m sorry to say I’m stuck on the 80’s and haven’t even made an attempt to learn any of the new stuff. I do know that Kanye has been around for awhile and I know that Taylor Swift is a very popular artist. I may not know their music, but I’m not immune to Perez Hilton or TMZ who report on them regularly.

I’ve seen and or heard artists make bad speeches for awards they’ve won. I’ve even heard of actors refusing an Oscar because he didn’t believe in them. I’ve never heard of an artist winning an award, and ANOTHER artist jump on stage and bash the winner. Whether or not Taylor Swift deserved to win her award is really kind of irrelevant. Kanye West had no business jumping on stage, taking the mic out of Swift’s hand and then complain that Beyonce should have won the award for that category.     Read the rest of this entry »

R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

September 15th, 2009 by Bern

Patrick Swayze

“Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” star, Patrick Swayze, 57, died on September 14, 2009 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. It was reported that his family was at his side when he died.

Despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early in 2008, Patrick had a starring role as a veteran FBI agent on A & E’s “The Beast”. The series was cancelled after only one season, even though there was a story line in place to “kill off” Swayze’s character in the event the actor couldn’t continue with his role.

My favorite movie of his was “Red Dawn” with Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell. I remember going to the movies with my friend Bridget while we were in highschool and how she cried at the end.

Thank you for all you’ve given us, Patrick. We will miss you.
