Thank You For Being A Friend

Estelle Getty passed away today at the age of 84.

As Sophia Petrillo, Estelle Getty brought an ornery spirit to an aging woman who just wasn’t ready to surrender to age and spend the rest of her days living in a retirement home like Shady Pines. The chemistry between all four women was truly magical and funny. Having Sophia written in as the mother of one of the characters truly rounded out the dynamic and Estelle Getty was genius at playing her. It makes me laugh to see this cute little Jewish lady playing a tough old Italian broad from Brooklyn.

I still watch The Golden Girls, just about everyday on Lifetime. The episodes currently run daily at 4 & 4:30pm and 1 & 1:30am.

Rest in peace, Estelle. And thank you for being our friend.
