Bucs Opening Day

Tampa Bay BuccaneersSo the much-anticipated 2009 season started for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday…and I was there with my friend Mike.

Being the good fan that I am, I love my Bucs win or lose. Given the price of tickets at Raymond James Stadium it would have to take quite a bit more than my team losing to make me leave early. Unfortunately, we left during the 3rd quarter. The temperature in the stands was just unbearable. I think it was only in the 80’s, but the sun was blasting and the humidity was quite oppressive. I made through most of the 2nd quarter and then I had to go down to the concourse. I was hot and dizzy and I definitely didn’t want to be one of those people that know when they’re not feeling well and insist on pushing it until they collapse. Mike came down at half-time and we decided that it was just too hot and neither of us wanted to wind up getting sick so we left.

And the Bucs wound up losing. Quite frankly, it wasn’t that big of a surprise only because they have a whole new coaching staff and so many new players. We knew this would either be a totally rockin’ year or a totally suckin’ year. My friend, Brandon, is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan so of course he was living it up and we were chatting back and forth during the game. Mike and I were in agreement that the Bucs’ offense didn’t look horrible, although they blew a couple of shoo-in plays, but overall they were ok. We didn’t want to talk about the defense. I mean, I know Monte Kiffin is gone, but geez louise!

I wish I could say more about the game, but considering I only saw the first 20 or so minutes of the game and spent much of the rest of it trying to get out of the stadium and back to the car, I didn’t get to see nearly as much as I would have liked.

Ok. So they lost the first game of the season. There are still 15 games to go and the pressure of a perfect season is off…
