What About John Graziano?

Hulk HoganI remember back in the 80’s, at the height of WWF popularity, going to the matches at Madison Square Garden in New York City. I was a huge fan of wrestlers like Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Rowdy Roddy Piper; and of course, Hulk Hogan.

Then there was the whole steroids mess where it seemed like half the wrestlers disappeared. Most reappeared in NWO and then some even later in the new WWE. I’d already fallen out of love with “rasslin” by the time I got out of highschool.

Shear Genius - Season Two

May 26th, 2008 by Bern

Jaclyn SmithSo excited! Season Two of Shear Genius begins Wednesday, June 25th at 10:00pm on BravoTV.

I am so not into reality tv shows - can’t stand shows like American Idol; I’ve caught bits and pieces of Dancing with the Stars, but wasn’t impressed enough to watch the whole thing or to watch it ever again for that matter. But there is something about this show. Maybe because in addition to a skill, the contestants also have to show creativity, attitude, and pride.

Last season’s contestants were such fun to watch - and of course I can’t remember any of their names except for Dr. Boogie. The challenges that they were given were quite interesting, though. There was one challenge where they had to create a hairstyle using off the wall cutting tools. One such tool was a pair of garden shears. Another was a box cutter. I think it was Daisy that had the garden shears and she went through the next challenge using them again.

Another Carolina Panther In Trouble With The Law

May 26th, 2008 by Bern

Rich TylskiIt was reported on jacksonville.com (The Florida Times Union), that former Jacksonville Jaguar, Rich Tylski, has been sentenced to pre-trial intervention for abusing his adopted daughter.

Tylski, 37, and his wife, Jane, plead guilty to charges that they had abused their adopted daughter by having “spanked the girl with a belt beyond the scope of proper discipline,” and bending her fingers to the point where at least one of her digits are permanently deformed.

The investigation into the abuse began in 2006, when the child had been brought to the hospital with a broken femur (thigh bone). Tylski had reported the girl had fallen down the stairs.

An Actual Contender?

May 25th, 2008 by Bern

Tampa Bay Rays Mascot RaymondWith the All Star Game a little over a month away, the Tampa Bay Rays continue to kick some hiney.

Today’s win puts them back into first place, 1/2 game ahead of the Boston Red Sox and 5 games ahead of the New York Yankees. They’ve won seven of the last 10 games, with a current 3-game winning streak.

This year’s All Star Game will be held on July 15th at the legendary Yankee Stadium in New York. Seems fitting that the Yankees should host the game considering this is their last season playing in The House That Ruth Built.

Another Thoroughbred In Danger?

May 25th, 2008 by Bern

BarbaroI remember the day when Barbaro was put down in 2007. He had won the Kentucky Derby in 2006 and while running the Preakness only weeks later, he fractured three bones in his right back leg. Back in the day, the horse would have been put down on the spot. But, nowadays, even if a horse’s racing career is over, most times the horse can be put out to stud and breed the next generation of champions.

But Barbaro was different. A truly magnificent beast, the trainers and owners worked hard and spent tons of money to try to save this horse. He was not only a Kentucky Derby winner, but seemed to be loved by everyone who knew of his untimely injury. Barbaro made most sports headlines with each new treatment, progression and setback during his recovery. Unfortunately, on January 29, 2007, just eight months after suffering his injury during the Preakness, Barbaro was put down.

Is Wi-Fi dangerous?

May 25th, 2008 by Bern

Wi-FiI came across a tidbit on Drudge Report about a group in Santa Fe, New Mexico that claim they are “allergic” to wi-fi: they want to have wi-fi banned from public places.

One member of the group claims he suffers from chest pain when near any device that uses wi-fi technology, including cell phones. Others with sensitivity to electric fields suffer from similar difficulties and are citing the Americans with Disabilities Act as their reason for demanding that wi-fi be banned from public places.

Wow - this should prove to be a very interesting case. I just spent the past three months without my cellphone so that wouldn’t be a huge loss for me. But my computer not have wireless access to the internet? Nope, don’t think I could live with that.
